The concert is a student concert performed by the music school students. The concert band contains a conductor, a piano, a  bass, a brass group, a percussion, and an electric guitar. The brass group includes the saxophone, trombone, trumpet, and horn. The concert which is featured by Jazz style has presented six pieces to the audience.

The first piece is opening music with a passionate melody. The tempo of the piece is not very slow, and there are several dynamic changes in the piece. For example, after the piano plays the soft and smooth music, the dynamic of the melody in the brass group was becoming louder gradually. One of the most impressive parts of the piece is the trumpet solo. The performer used the trumpet to express the relaxing feeling of Jazz music.

The name of the second piece is “This is own value.” I was attracted by the touching and soft piano solo at the beginning. Compared to the passionate melody of the starting music, “This is own value” sounds more like an internal monologue of yourself or a soundtrack from a film. The dynamic of the piece is very soft and the tempo marking of the music should be Andante. The hardest part of this piece should be the main melody played by brass instruments because they should be very strict in volume and dynamic control to create the dreamlike scene.

The third piece of the concert is “Just kidding”. The title of the music indicates the humor feeling that the melody will express. The excellent percussion solo, in the beginning, should be one of the most remarkable performances of the concert, and the whole piece performs with a passionate brass melody, accompanied by a syncopated figure in the percussion. The tempo of the piece should be Allegro because it plays at a fast speed. The piano solo makes the melody like a naughty boy who is joking with the audience through the diverse rhythmic notes.

The name of the fourth piece is “Over the rainbow”. The piece recomposed the piece which was originally written by Harold Arlen. The song was a soundtrack that came from the film of  “The Wizard of Oz.” As the major instrument in this piece, the brass group plays a soft timbre which creates a colorful rainbow to people. Basically, the whole piece performs the familiar melody to the audience, but in the middle section of the music, the variation was applied to make the melody more impressive. The tempo of the music is not very fast and the dynamic is not very loud. “Over the rainbow” is also the piece that I am familiar with. The recomposition is very impressive because the variation makes the melody more Jazz.

The fifth piece is “One by one”. In this piece, there are two electricity guitar performers in the band. The tempo marking of this music should be Allegro. The performance of the brass group in this music is very outstanding. The dynamic changes in this part are very obvious and contrast between loud and soft is very prominent. The performers have a strong performance tension, which can convey the enthusiasm and ease of jazz music to the audience. In the end, the long tone of the brass group also perfectly creates a sense of ending. The last piece of the concert is “Big dipper by fat jones.” In the beginning, the piano introduced the melody to the brass part by playing the light and bright melody. Then the slippery sound which is played by the brass band also makes the whole piece very funny, just like its name. My favorite part of the music is the trumpet solo, the performer has perfectly caught the sense of humor in the music. Another highlight of this piece is a short note that all of the instruments played together. The conductor grasped the opportunity well and made the whole atmosphere reach its peak.
