Introduction

Each day people use various products in home and workplace to meet the basic need. Most of the products and packages are discarded and thrown in the trash, which are eventually treated with landfill. And people ignore facts that most of the waste may be reused or recycled. If people can minimize the consumption of products, it will also be a very responsible action. In the article, it makes a report on recycling and waste management in terms of definition and implications, procedure, principles and ranges, and prospect.

Definition and implications of Recycling and waste management

Recycling and waste management basically includes the waste materials that will be marked as recyclable and transferred to the waste facilities, which was designated in the waste disposal containers as the materials for recycling. There are recent experiments in waste management of hospitality sector with different ways(Debnath, 2015). Recyclable products are converted into primitive forms that may be used to set up different and new products. Their are signs of seeking global best practice, but the sustainability of a lot of locally-based measures need to be improved(Ezeah, Fazakerley, & Byrne, 2015).Not only are the natural resources limited, but the recovery effort can greatly reduce the extra waste, which is not only harmful to earth today, but also for generations in the future.

Recycling and waste management involve reuse of products, which has economical and ethical benefits to people and company. In conventional production, the use of raw materials is directly derived from nature resources. Biologically-based waste management systems is a more reliable, cheap option to energy intensive mechanical systems, and are the choice of more and more communities and municipalities(Reed,  Crites, & Middlebrooks, 1995). Thus, it is effective to improve the quality of products in the production process, reduce operation costs, maintain the cost-effective company, and so on.  People must consider the facts that demand driven supply and control demand will result in a reduction in the exploitation of natural resources. Increased expenses of resources and impacts of waste influenced the income, environment and public image of the hotel sector(Sousa, & Trancoso, 2005, p.109). Then waste saving as a result of the use of recycled material can decrease the overall expenses.

Procedure, Principles and Ranges of Recycling and Waste Management

Most of the wastes can be recycled. It applies to most of the waste products, such as glass, metal and plastics. People may recycle in the different manner according to different place. But not all the material can be recycled. There are still a lot of gaps present in waste management system in hospitality industry(Nath, & Singh, 2012). It is thus needed to check by the local recycling center to check the type of things that can be recycled. People should also notice that the recyclable product is ranked from 1 to 7: 1 is highest recyclable, and 7 are lowest renewable. And before recycling, it is necessary to check town to ensure that people can get the right container to make sure that effort is well utilized and move towards recycling center. Recycling includes not only the existing products recycling, also take measures to reduce amount of waste. A study suggests that the successful solid waste management relies on enough financing and providing enough waste bins or cans for the whole environment to be clean and healthy(Adigwe, 2014). Therefore, it is important to bear in minds the three R of sustainable development in the purchase of goods, and management of waste, which is reuse, reduce and recycle.

Future prospect of Recycling and Waste Management

In the past, recycling and waste management is not stressed by hotels. Many hotel runners is not so interested in decreasing, minimized and/or recycling waste, thinking that such events are too costly and time-consuming(Voukkali, 2015). It shows that there is an uneven development of waste management of hotels. Today, as a result of the vigorous promotion of green movement, people has noticed that more and more goods are made of materials recycled. Hotels can integrate it as a strategic opportunity in the greening of services(Debnath, 2015). Now they are looking for new way to create the recyclable packages, including ink boxes, cardboard boxes, paper towels, plastic containers, crayons, ink boxes, paint and garden supplies, such as furniture, water pipes, wallpaper and trash cans. Therefore, it shows a choice and attitude of the human beings to protect and enrich the environment of which people are one part.

Conclusion

To sum up, the nature resources on the earth are limited. Thus, it is necessary to save, reuse and recycle them as much as possible under the guideline of three Rs’ of Sustainability – Reuse, Reduce and Recycle.
