Introduction

It is known to us that abortion increasingly occurs in our daily life and it has become heatedly debated nowadays. Some people in approval of abortion deem that abortion should be legal and the females have the right to determine their own life. However, others in disapproval of abortion argue that abortion should be forbidden because it is wrong to intentionally end the lives of innocent post-natal children and adults. Therefore the following would like to make a comparison and contrast between these two views of abortion, during which the legal aspect, the pregnant women’s emotional, mental and physical journey, the age difference, the education level difference, etc. of these two views of abortion will be compared and contrasted with one another. It is hoped that this comparison and contrast can help provide some insightful suggestions as for how to better understand abortion.

Compare and Contrast on Two Views of Abortion

First and foremost, the legal consideration for the two views of abortion will be mentioned. For one part, the view that agrees on abortion states that abortion should be legalized. Public support for legal abortion seems to keep as high as it has been in two decades of polling as of 2018. At present, 58% claim that abortion should be legal in most of or even all the cases (Pew Research Center. 2019). For another, the view that disagrees on abortion claims that abortion should not be legalized. And the proportion of people that hold abortion should be illegal in most of or all the cases is 37% (Pew Research Center. 2019).

Based on the percentage difference of people that agree on or disagree on abortion, it can be readily detected that there are more people that supports the abortion to be legal in the reality. These two views on abortion are taken from the perspective of different groups of people. It can be understood in this way that the view that agrees on the legalization of abortion focuses more on the interests of the pregnant women and they have the right to manage their own life. In the opposite, the view that disagrees on the legalization of abortion concentrates on the interests and life of the unborn babies because they have the right to come to the world to experience themselves.

Moreover, the pregnant women’s emotional, mental and physical journey of these two views of abortion will follow. On the one hand, the view that agrees on abortion has portrayed the positive changes occur in the emotional, mental and physical journey due to abortion. The pregnant women can regain the opportunity to pursue their own life due to their not being blocked by the babies (Tooley, Michael. 2009). On the other hand, the view that disagrees on abortion puts forward that women’s minds have to be changed that “I am where I’m supposed to be” (Tooley, Michael. 2009), which is the mission of a campaigner when she holds a vigil outside an abortion clinic. Due to the effect of abortion, great harm is caused to the pregnant women and it calls for a long period of time for them to recover. Some people may lose the chance to be pregnant again due to the abortion, which can well depict the great harm of abortion on humans.

In addition, the age of the two views of abortion will be compared. The age of people that agree on abortion tends to be smaller than that of people that disagree on abortion. In fact, 63% of adults that have not reached the age 30 deem that abortion should be legal in most of or all the cases and the percentage for adults in their 30s and 40s is 59% (Cozic, Charles P, Tipp, Stacey L. 1991). At the same time, 56% of adults in their 50s and early 60s propose that abortion should be legalized and 57% of people that ages 65 or older agrees on the legalization of abortion (Cozic, Charles P, Tipp, Stacey L. 1991). According to this, a fair knowledge can be obtained that younger people appear to have greater degree of acceptance on abortion than the older people.

Last but not the least, the education level of the two views of abortion will be referred to at length. Generally speaking, the education level of people that agree on abortion tends to be higher than those who disagrees on abortion. The more detailed statistics given is that around 71% (seven-in-ten) college graduates propose that abortion should be legal in most of or even all the cases and that percentage for college education is 60% (Callahan, Joan C. 1995). And it is further added that opinion is even more divided among those with a high school degree or a lower degree than that: 48% of high school students say that abortion should be legal in most of or all the cases while 47% of those high school students deem that abortion should be illegal in most of or all the cases (Callahan, Joan C. 1995).

Conclusion

To sum up, a reasonable conclusion can be drawn that there are really many aspects that are different among these two views on abortion as long as the below few aspects are taken into account: the legal aspect, the pregnant women’s emotional, mental and physical journey, the age difference, the education level difference, and so on. However, what is a must to point out is that there are many other aspects concerning the similarities and differences between two views on abortion as have not been mentioned in the above, which calls for further efforts in the future. Only in this way can the similarities and differences between two views on abortion be explored to the full.
