Going to the *** during high school broadened my perspectives and sharpened my thinking mechanism and skills. By discussing in groups and debating in college competitions, I was influenced by the outstanding qualities of ****students. By participating in freshman seminar, I learned the importance of the formats in terms of cooperative research, critical thinking, debates and feedback.
This experience enabled me to realize that the subjects of humanity and society are as important as mathematics and physics, as they drive the development of the society and the advancement of the human civilization. The philosophy lecture I listened to at the summit broadened the perceptions and perspectives that I look at the world. This experience laid the foundation for me to prepare myself to future development. I started to pay attention to a diverse set of subjects, including economics and environment.
In 2015, I began my studies at **** College, focusing on professional knowledge involving mathematics, statistics, and economics. Rather than treating these subjects as separate disciplines, I believe they are all interconnected and instrumental to analyzing real-world scenarios and making multifaceted analysis to solve complex situations in the future.
I have also been collaborating with the local government of ****, China on a large-scale environmental assessment project, of which I worked with experts and friends to fully explore the situation in ****, where the economy relies mainly on the mining industry. I kept in touch with professionals in the US regularly through social media to receive updated data on air quality, pH level of the soil, and radioactivity. Afterwards, I entered these data into statistical models to predict future trends and cross-reference these finding with current events to explain possible causes and effects of various activities. During this process, I gained great understanding through self-studying multiple disciplines, most outside of the scopes of my undergraduate studies, and contributed to the economic and environmental longevity of my hometown.
