Describe an example of your leadership experience in which you have positively influenced others, helped resolve disputes, or contributed to group efforts over time.
I demonstrated my leadership during the experience of attending the *** Summit for Young Leader in China. I led a project of senior medical treatment wristband, which aims to help senior people to automatically contact hospitals when they encounter sudden disease for the entrepreneurship plan. We found a temporary team of eight people to complete the project within three days. However, the team members were not familiar with each other and it was hard to start the brainstorming process and formulate the positive team environment. I took initiative in acting as a “blender” and a “magnet “in the team to mitigate the embarrassment and to coordinate different opinions within the team.
On the first day, I conveyed my thoughts regarding the mission and the working process of our project first. I exerted my leadership through telling some jokes to enliven the team dynamics and leading most of the discussions to promote the progress of our project. During the discussion, I encouraged everyone to face and overcome the challenges, while focusing on digging everyone’s strengths and advantages. After overseeing the strengths and weakness of each team member, I divided the work so that each of us can focus on our core competencies to increase efficiency of our teamwork.
During the other two days, some conflicts evolved in the team as the limited time gave people a lot of pressure. I stood out to help solve the conflict through walking them through the problem and finding a better solution which satisfies the requirement of both parties. Although we didn’t make it to the top three teams in the end, I learned the difficulty of entrepreneurs and the pressure faced by the leader. I also improved my leadership skill through preparing this highly intensive project. An effective leader should not only have the ability to remain calm under pressure and to coordinate different issues within a team, but also be able to foster a positive team dynamics and to leverage the strengths of all team members in order to yield the best possible result for the team.
