During my undergraduate studies of Finance and Marketing, I have come to realize that my true interest lies in numbers and the outcome they predict. The quantifiable impact of analytics has enlightened me of the qualifiable improvement to one problem. The more I can detect trends from tables and charts, the more I am eager and curious about the new findings that lies in front of the analyses and actions. Knowing ‘what’ is crucial, while finding out ‘how’ is the real focus of business analytics.

I believe that business analytics is the right career path mainly due to three reasons. The very first is that it fits in with my talent – inquisitiveness. Being a detail-oriented person, I can keep the big picture in mind as well as paying a great deal of attention to details. I imagine the real-life challenge of business analytics to be about dealing with huge amount of data, and this is when inquisitiveness comes in. It helps a business analyst to work on datasets and come up with meaningful conclusions.

The second reason is because I understand the tools and methods towards business analytics. Familiar with knowledge of SAS, Excel, SQL, and even Python, I can apply those tools to describe, predict and finally, decide. However, there are more goals to achieve at this program that will allow me to step up further in my career. First level is descriptive analysis, which means showing historical data through visualization. Second level is predictive analysis that means building model for historical data to predict unknown situation. The highest level is simulation and optimization, which is decisive analysis-after former two analysis and how to make optimal choice for the company.

Finally, the career is appealing to me due to its requirement of the interpretation and quantitative skills. I have been particularly interested in numbers and figures, and more than comfortable with mathematical formulas. What is more, I look forward to work on huge data and find out more meaningful solutions which helps in the decision-making process. I understand that in business analytics, the key job is not to investigate the data, but to form strategies based on my interpretation of the results.

In short, business analytics is the right career path for those who have the similar background, talent, and outlooks like me. I look forward to being admitted in this program and could communicate with the faculty and other fellow students.
